Masks: Bad for Your Health

Updated: Jun 2, 2020

From the World Heath Organization

"If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with COVID-19."

With the COVID-19 pandemic, some doctors around the world have been entrusted by various governments with setting policy n dealing with the newly discovered SARS COVID-19 virus. The only thing more controversial than shutting down society has been the issue of masks. But after reading published literature on masks, the mask wearing public definitely is wearing them without knowing the risks. Some places like Virginia have now made wearing them mandatory, complicating matters.

One day we are told by authorities that masks are not required or are ineffective. The next day we are told that masks help control the spread of viruses including COVID-19. Then we are told that only medical grade masks are effective only for those same people to turn around tell us that, "Never mind what we said last week, go home make your masks out of household items."

From the state of New York:

Face the facts!

Facemasks will do little to reduce the spread of flu unless they are used properly and by the people who really need them.

But what do impartial scientists and doctors think of masks? What do we learn about masks when searching the scientific literature written before the SARS COVID-19 virus was spreading? I read through the available literature available online and came to a bold new conclusion and I can summarize it here: not only do masks not work to control pandemics, they can actually even cause harm to the person wearing them.

Surprise! If you didn’t already know it, breathing all day through a hot and humid piece of cloth that is literally oozing with bacteria, germs, and viruses causes health problems. Now, many people have already been blessed with common sense and already know this. Those people didn’t need a $4 Million Dollar government grant and 3 years of double blind clinical studies to conclude that breathing through a petri dish that is overflowing with 'filth' is not a good idea.

Ever since life first walked on land, life has peacefully coexisted with countless and innumerable viruses, and it has done so without social distancing, foregoing their natural biology, or even wearing masks. Could you imagine that the dinosaurs who lived on the Earth for millions of years ever maintained a 6 foot distance from every other dinosaur? Could you imagine that wooly mammoths needed to wear masks to survive being wiped out by a virus? Seems absurdly silly to ask these questions, but this is what leaders around the world now say about humanity and what we need to do.

First of all, the thing that people seem to be ignoring the fact of, is that biological life has coexisted with viruses since the beginning of life itself. In fact, viruses may even be one of the earliest forms of life on the planet Earth. But it is an open debate (scientists as it turns out rarely every agree on anything!) if viruses constitute a life form. Some say 'yes,' and others say, 'no.'

Please look at this article from ScienceDaily.com about a recent study done on the effects of cloth masks. There are other studies too, in fact many studies, and some that cite the dangers of the N95 medical grade masks. But this article is a relatively easy read for people without a scientific background.

Are you back yet?

It is a physical impossibility to isolate humanity from nature and shield it from viruses. Unless you’re talking about astronauts in space, every single human being alive will be exposed to countless numbers of viruses throughout life. Did you know that viruses travel around the earth in its atmosphere and are deposited around the globe? It is a scientific fact. Even if you clean and sterilize your home every day, unless your home is on Mars, your home is awash in billions of virus particles this very moment.

There is a group of near-militant people that boldy go on television to say, “You don’t have the right to breath COVID-19 into the air I am breathing.” Essentially they all say something like that. But something is wrong with that statement:

They are incorrect! Here is why...

Because every single animal life form on the planet Earth, with each and every breath, breathes in and breathes out viruses with every breath.

This is not a theory. This is is true for every lifeform from humans to squirrels to penguins.

If someone wants to go through life and never breath in or out another virus again, there is only one thing they can do and that is to stop breathing. I don't recommend that! The other alternative is to deal with reality. The reality is that we around literally bathed in viruses each and every day – there is no avoiding it!

The matter of the fact is that nature created humans as an animal life form and did so without caring about whether or not someone was abnormally afraid of germs. Life was created such that it is impossible to simply be alive and to not breathe out viruses into the air around you. Likewise, it is also impossible not breathe in viruses from the air around you. Our human biology means that we are constantly breathing in and breathing out pathogens our entire lives - it's how we are made and there is nothing you can do about it. Well, I suppose there are a couple of things, so let's briefly discuss what we can do...

If a person wants to avoid breathing in a virus from another individual, that first person should absolutely not have a right to force another person to stop being a human being.

What I am saying is that since humans and animal life were created and evolved to breathe in and out viruses, if someone wants to stop that process then they can do whatever they like to themselves, such as wearing protective gear, but they can't force someone else to alter their interaction with the natural world. Animal life has evolved such that by virtue of simply being alive, there is a flow of viruses into and out of our bodies. There isn't a thing you can do about it.

Pass all the laws you want about social distancing and mask wearing all you want, but you Mother Nature doesn't care and breathing in a virus is inevitable.

The right to exist as a human being is first and foremost the most important right that a person should have. No other person has a right to force another person into a protective suit that cuts them off from the outside because they are irrationally afraid of germs. If tomorrow it is discovered that viruses can also enter the body through the eyes, how many people are going to start wearing motorcycle helmets to the grocery store? If you are a germaphobe then you definitely don't want to search for this topic online.

Being a human being means you were born breathing in and breathing out viruses with every breath you took since day number 1 of your life. Humans are simply not meant to wear those dirty and disgusting things on their face every day of their lives. Don’t believe me, try exercising with a mask on in 90 degree weather and let me know how long it is before you have to tear off your mask so that you can breathe again.

Fact: cloth masks cause health problems. Many hospital workers cannot even tolerate the medical grade N95 masks. As strange as it may sound, there is something unhealthy about wearing a mask sealed over your mouth and nose and breathing extra carbon dioxide all day, every day.

So if you are a person who does not want to breathe in a virus exhaled by another person then 1) there is nothing you can do to stop it short of moving to Mars or putting yourself inside a Darth Vader suit, and 2) the burden is on you to protect yourself from inhaling viruses. Your pets at home that you love, I hate to inform you, they are also virus generating balls of fluff. Do you wear masks around the house? If you do and you're not dealing with a compromised immune system for one reason or another, then well, I suppose it's a free country.

Is there anything else you can do?

I suppose if you want to, you can stay home and germproof your house, do your shopping online, kick your pets out to the curb, and you can even work and go to school from your living room. In fact, the world might be a better place if some people never interacted with the world outside ever again.

The other choice is that you can go outside wearing a scuba tank and breathing in filtered and purified air. Do you think I am being over the top silly? How much sillier is it shut down society, throw 10s of millions out of work and school, force everyone to sit inside their home for months, ban haircuts for 3 months, declare heart surgery is nonessential, and wait for a virus to magically disappear from the planet? Don't look around, but we did exactly that, except the virus isn't going away. Isn't Mother Nature pesky?

The onus is on you: stay home, or live like Darth Vader inside a protective suit. You do not have a right to force another person into a bubble or wear ineffective protective gear that harms their health or violates their right to live as nature intended.

You do have a right to reduce your interaction with the world around you. Let's see....

-You don't need to belong to a gym.

-You don't need to go on dates or to movies.

-You don't need to go to the grocery store anymore as other people will do it for you.

-You don't even need a haircut, and you cut down your trips to the dentist to every other year or only when the pain of tooth decay gets too bad to ignore.

These are all choices you can make today; the government doesn't need to decide for you.

Remember the pro-life stance of ‘my body and my choice’? Seems that infamous cry of the liberals ought to now be, ‘Your body, my fears.’

Welcome to the new normal, and... Congratulations! Breathing is now an activity regulated by the government. How long before it's taxed?

Before I go, here is a the procedure to take off a face mask, courtesy of the CDC:

  1. DO NOT TOUCH the front of the respirator! It may be contaminated!

  2. Remove by pulling the bottom strap over back of head, followed by the top strap, without touching the respirator.

  3. Discard in waste container. WASH YOUR HANDS!

I think it's safe to say that masks are not being used correctly by anyone at all.
